Located at 1360 Greene Street, the Silverton City Hall was built in 1908. The bell tower of Silverton's City Hall was restored after a 1992 fire caused it to collapse.
One of three major construction projects in 1908, the construction of town hall was plagued with problems. The first contractor died, the second contractor left, and the third contractor was fired after the columns collapsed. In 1992, the town hall caught fire and the bell tower collapsed. It took 3 years to restore the structure and be brought up to code. Silverton won a national award from the National Trust for Historic Presevation.

The Town of Silverton was designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1961 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1966. The town has retained an exceptional degree of historic integrity, largely due to its isolation, distance from major population centers, and altitude. The district comprises a number of historic buildings, most of which were built between 1882 and 1910 during Silverton’s boomtown days. The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and the Mayflower Mill have also been designated as National Historic Landmarks.
