"Suited for Space," developed by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), chronicles the history of the spacesuit, from the 1920s to the Space Shuttle era.

The exhibit includes dozens of life-size images and banners of spacesuits in the collection at the Smithsonian's National Air and Space Museum.

What Big Eyes You Have

In preparation for travel, Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) staffers examine all the details on our replica Apollo-era spacesuit, included the national traveling exhibiton "Suited for Space."

An actual Apollo helmet featured a 24-karat gold film overvisor to protect the eyes from intense sunlight. This one was not 24-karat gold but certainly provides the look of the real thing!

Sticky-Note Inspiration

Visitors to the Columbia Memorial Space Center were asked a few questions in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES) exhibition "Suited for Space."

With good, old-fashioned pens and paper, visitors talked about their favorite spacesuits, what they would bring with them to the moon, and whether they'd like to visit the moon or Mars.
