The store on the left opened as a Jewel in 1981, and included a glass bottle return by the customer service desk. The opening of a large discount grocery store owned by Dominick's (I think the name was Omni?) a half mile away caused the Jewel to close, as did a couple of other grocery stores that subsequently occupied that space.
Finally, hope! A Walmart Neighborhood Market opened, and closed a few years later. It's been vacant ever since. A Marshall's, which was in the space on the right, soldiered on as the only tenant, until it, too, closed.
The current tenants: a blood bank and a wholesale sportswear shop.
"Before I looked at this digital picture I had not thought about 1906 for a long damn time," is the thing I am trying to get you to say. Say it!
Here was "The Peoples Building," a/k/a the People’s Union Bank & Trust Company Building, erected 1906. Haha "peoples."
