Taken on March 20th 1966
Peterborough North station, in March 1966, with the old station roof, and the notorious dog-leg which slowed down so many express trains over the years.. Someone is crossing the main running lines, between the platforms..
There are still a selection of antique baggage trolleys on the platforms, but there is a BRUTE in the distance..
The overall station roof seen here was removed later in the 1960s, and the station was completely rebuilt and updated in 1972, and the through lines straightened, and platforms relocated.. Today (2025) all lines through here are electrified, and rail services are operated by LNER, Great Northern, Grand Central, Thameslink, GreaterAnglia, CrossCountry, and Lumo....
Restored from a faded, very grainy, under-exposed unfocussed original..
