A quiet moment caught between light and stillness.
Not planned, not staged—just a fleeting presence resting gently on a petal.
There’s no story here, and yet it feels like one.

This macro photograph invites you into a truly tiny world. A small patch of moss with its delicate spore capsules perches on a weathered branch, creating what we see as a simple island of green. But from the perspective of the almost-invisible mite at the bottom left, this is a vast, ancient forest of towering trees and a sprawling landscape to explore. The image is a powerful reminder that our perception is defined by our scale, and what seems insignificant to us can be an entire universe to another. Sometimes, it's all about perspective.

The diversity of protoplanetary disks: Imaging a complete sample of edge-on disks in four nearby star-forming regions

I was looking at this image at the nasa.gov website and wondering why it turned out like it did. It's a low signal image firstly, but secondly, when trying to bring out that low signal, the fringe pattern (Figure 5.4) in the F814W data becomes a big problem. I did away with the fringe pattern by using the F606W data for luminance in all the low signal areas. If you're into graphic design you might be more familiar with fringe patterns by the name of Moiré.
Other things of note: The chip gap is filled with cloned data. There are some old WFPC2 data in the archive that could have filled some of it, but it didn't seem worth it. I did use some rather heavy noise reduction, or at least I personally consider it heavy, but the image is still pretty noisy. That's just how it is. I don't think a better image results from trying to make it any smoother.

An elegant and high-contrast macro shot of a delicate seed pod against a deep black background. The subtle light illuminates its fragile, intricate structure, creating a sense of ethereal beauty and peaceful solitude. The image captures a moment of suspended grace, like a final breath before a journey begins.
With perfect waxy blooms, the magnolia grandiflora in our garden has performed well this year giving us a number of blooms at eye level that I can never resist photographing. Having just opened, this specimen was in peak condition before the pollinators get in and also smelling wonderfully. It may seem a good chance to go B&W but I rather like like the subtle yellowish / off white colour of the petals and so have left this in colour.
