I was woken in the night by a rave on land a couple of miles away from us - it was good to be reassured on Facebook that I wasn't imagining the low thump, thump, thump of the drums! I listened to last weeks' The Archers' on iPlayer, and then went back to sleep.
It was beautiful morning, so I did a bit of gardening, then some photo editing. I wanted to go for a bike ride, so I went up to where the rave was being held - it was still going (and in the end continued until about 4pm), although lots of people had left, and more were getting ready to go. The police were blocking cars from going towards it, but I went through on my bike - they just warned me about the rave, and said as long as I felt safe, I could go through. An ambulance was on stand-by.
I stopped and chatted to several of the people who were making their way home. They were from places such as Hereford, Southampton, London, Norfolk, and even Leeds. At the entrance to the venue, I chatted to some of the people involved - one of them asked what local people thought about it, and she assured me that they do their best to clear up afterwards. As I went on my way, there was a lot of litter in the lanes nearby, and what concerned me most was the deflated punch balloons, which can be dangerous for animals. I asked someone if they had any bin bags, and she gave me several, so I began to pick up all the litter, and got a couple of bin bags full, although some of it was obviously old litter, and not due to the rave. It was good to do something positive to help the situation, and many of the rave-goers were very thankful and appreciative, and apologised for the mess. It was actually a pleasant time, and I'd have liked to have chatted longer to some of the people.
In the afternoon, Mike fetched Bethan & Lucas to come and stay for a few days. After our meal, it was nice and dark - thanks to the end of British Summer Time - so Bethan, Lucas & I went on a dark walk through the village (with a torch for when needed) so that they could see the stars and experience the dark. We all enjoyed it, and were pretty tired when we got back, so Lucas and Bethan went straight to bed.
A lovely sunny day - warm mostly, but still a bit chilly in the shade and wind. We enjoyed a bike ride this morning, going to Barnsley, Ampney Crucis, Ampney St Mary, and Poulton. We stopped off for the last part of the Quenington Coffee Morning, which was well-attended, and good to catch up with various people, and meet a couple of new people - as well as have coffee and cake, of course :-)
After lunch, I took the magazines over to Southrop, and the new distribution coordinator and I sorted them into their bundles, and then she drove us round on the route, so she could get to know where all the houses for drop-offs are, and where to leave them if no-one is in etc. It was quite fun, doing it together. I actually have to do it next month too, as she'll be on holiday. but hopefully after that she'll be fine.
When I got back I did lots of weeding, dead-heading etc, and also a bit of sitting in the sunshine, before getting the tea and watching a film with Mike - another though-provoking one, which felt quite like a John Gresham, but wasn't: The Whole Truth.
Oh, and I bought some vintage Hot Wheels track on eBay, to augment my own 50-year old stuff :-)
