Back to the fjords!

Today Richard and I are going on our first getaway together this summer.

We will go to several of our favourite places in eastern and mostly western Norway, like Stryn where this self portrait is from.

My album of self portraits here.

Weddings ♡

I haven't photographed weddings in some years due to my health, but today I will do one that I promised to do long time ago. I am excited in many ways! The weather is perfect and the couple is wonderful.

This is one of the weddings from my archive.

Check out many many more photos from different weddings I've had, in the links below the line!

Portrait Day by Ranveig Marie Photography

Portrait Day

One more photo from beautiful Irene's varied confirmation photo shoot one year ago.

I love taking portraits now and then, although it's not the best for my hips and back this year.

But I still do a few short ones, like the ones I will do today- of families and confirmands together, in my neighbourhood. It will be nice to meet them all.

Check out many more beautiful photos of Irene in the links below the line!

A rare sight by Ranveig Marie Photography

© Ranveig Marie Photography, all rights reserved.

A rare sight

A spotted nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes) from last year.

They are very rare in western Norway, and I have only seen them that time and once this year, when I spotted one in the top of a tree.

Now I am on my way to eastern Norway, at the invitation of a photography friend. We will stay in a hide for one night, photographing spotted nutcrackers, badgers (for my first time), squirrels, small birds and everything else that shows up. Exciting!

Winners! by Ranveig Marie Photography

Winners!

Last night I was lucky to win Biofoto Rogaland's monthly photo competition with this photo, of the mountain hares (Lepus timidus) in Finnmark last month.

There are so many skilled nature photographers there, and normally I end up in the middle with my photos. But now and then I get higher, like this time.

I wasn't there myself during the meeting last night, since I have been birdwatching in eastern Norway for several days.

Now my friend and I are on our way home, after just getting my first Eurasian hobby and Mediterranean gull (lerkefalk og svartehavsmåke, in Norwegian).

The Garden Singer by Ranveig Marie Photography

© Ranveig Marie Photography, all rights reserved.

The Garden Singer

I just heard the garden warbler (Sylvia borin) for the first time this year, behind the bird station where I spend the week.

They are very good at hiding, but here I got to see it while joining a bird ringing trip last year.

It is a common and widespread warbler that breeds in most of Europe and in the Palearctic to western Siberia. It winters in sub-Saharan Africa.

The preferred breeding habitat in Eurasia is open woodland with dense low cover for nesting; despite its name, gardens are rarely occupied by this small passerine bird.

Three Tinies by Ranveig Marie Photography

Three Tinies

Tawny owlet siblings (Strix aluco) from last May.

I have joined some trips again this year, ringing tawny owl mums with eggs or newly hatched chicks in their boxes.

In some weeks, the chicks will be bigger like these ones.

B&W Walruses by Ranveig Marie Photography

© Ranveig Marie Photography, all rights reserved.

B&W Walruses

From a flock of at least 19 walruses we met while in a boat on Svalbard nearly 2 years ago. They are really enjoyable to watch.

Walruses have a disjointed circumpolar distribution. Two subspecies are recognized, one in the Pacific and the other in the Atlantic.

In the Northeast Atlantic walruses are distributed in shallow coastal areas along eastern Greenland, the Svalbard and Franz Josef Land Archipelagos, and in the southern Barents, Pechora and Kara Seas. Svalbard’s walruses are part of a joint population (genetically indistinguishable) with animals on Franz Josef Land.

Walruses generally live to be about 20 to 30 years old in the wild, but they have been known to live as long as 40 years.

Re-Encounter by Ranveig Marie Photography

Re-Encounter

From the very first time I met a spotted nutcracker (Nucifraga caryocatactes), last summer. It sat waiting for nuts together with a squirrel, right above our heads on a feeding ground in the forest.

Today I saw my second one, and this year's first for our region as well, on a little road trip in our municipality with a birdwatching friend. I saw it from a distance in a tree top, and didn't understand what bird it could be until I luckily took a couple of photos and zoomed in.

The spotted nutcracker is not common here in western Norway, so it was a nice surprise.

Beautiful Beast by Ranveig Marie Photography

Beautiful Beast

One of three beautiful male lions that relaxed together in the heat in Masai Mara.

It's already one month since I got home from that last wonderful trip there.

Tonight I will have a presentation in one of our photography clubs, about my photography history- how it started and developed. I mostly use photos from the archive, but I have edited this as one of the few new ones.

Two Years Old!

On the last day of August, I took some adorable photos of Edwin by our beach, one week before he turned 2.

I've photographed him and his family several times already, and it's always a pleasure.

Free at last by Ranveig Marie Photography

Free at last

Yesterday we were invited to join the release of this tawny owl (Strix aluco), that had been in treatment at the Norwegian Wildlife Hospital since May.

It was found emaciated, with a bacterial infection and a corneal damage on its right eye.

They even gave it many new feathers since so many were worn out, by a technique called imping.

The release went very well, and I hope it has many good years left.

The Inside Turn by Ranveig Marie Photography

The Inside Turn

I think this sanderling (Calidris alba) from the archive looks like a fast ice skater ッ

Yesterday we had 8 of them (and a dunlin) on the longest beach on our island, for the first time this year.

They look so funny when they run fast towards and away from the waves together, with little feet like drumsticks.

I spent the Friday evening laying on the beach, filming and photographing them. I think I have to go to check them out now as well, since the light is even better.

B&W Baboon by Ranveig Marie Photography

© Ranveig Marie Photography, all rights reserved.

B&W Baboon

An olive baboon (Papio anubis) from Kenya last year, now at the start of the last weekend of the school's summer break.

But it is nice that it's less than two months until autumn break and the trip I've participated in planning for others, to the same amazing new camp as last time.

AND there is room for more people to join, if the summer has been too quiet!

The olive baboons are the first animals one meet along the road towards Masai Mara.

Portrait Day by Ranveig Marie Photography

Portrait Day

Like today, I have used all gray days and more this summer on editing portrait assignments (mostly confirmands).

I really make myself busy by loving all kinds of photography 😅

I'll wait with showing the new ones until all of them are done, so here is one of my favourites from last year.

My album of people enjoying nature and portraits here.
