The Velvet Touch

bit.ly/3DgT61p moviesteve.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/velvet2.jpg In The Velvet Touch, a Broadway star accidentally kills the impresario who made her, in an argument about whether she should abandon frothy comedy (and him) and pursue a more noble career in the serious theatre. That’s the opening scene dealt with. The rest of the film concerns itself with the fate of the actress. … Read more

Cineaste365 (December 24, 2013 - DAY 074) - Today's Cineaste365 goes to Peter Godfrey's "Christmas in Connecticut".

Every Christmas Eve, I decide to watch a Christmas classic and for 2013, I chose Peter Godfrey's "Christmas in Connecticut", 1945 film, NOT the 1992 film directed by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

A fun Hollywood film from the '40s about popular columnist Elizabeth Lane (portrayed by Barbara Stanwyck) who lies about what she writes for a housekeeping magazine. She writes about cooking, living in a farm with children but in reality, she's a writer trying to survive in the big city, not married, no children and can't cook.

But when a survivor of an American vessel sunk by a German U-Boat who is a huge fan of Lane's column, is given the opportunity to spend Christmas at the home of Elizabeth, what will Elizabeth do?

A romantic comedy based on Aileen Hamilton's original story.
