Marlene Dietrich (1901-1992) is regarded as the first German actress to become successful in Hollywood. Throughout her long career, she constantly re-invented herself, starting as a cabaret singer, chorus girl and film actress in 1920s Berlin, she became a Hollywood movie star in the 1930s, a World War II frontline entertainer, and finally an international stage show performer from the 1950s to the 1970s, eventually becoming one of the entertainment icons of the 20th century.

Suave and sophisticated French actor Charles Boyer (1899-1978) began his career in French silent films and in 1936 he became an international star with his role in Mayerling opposite Danielle Darrieux. His long career earned him the title of 'the last of the cinema's great lovers'.

Handsome Hungarian actor and Opera singer Iván Petrovich (1894-1962) started his career as Svetislav Petrovic with silent Hungarian films. He also appeared in French, German and American silent productions and starred on stage in operas. His singing voice enabled him to make the transition to sound pictures. Till his death he appeared in nearly 100 European films.
