I can't say that I'm satisfied with it, but that's all about my lack of planning coupled with impatience/laziness. And, so. It will have to do.

I bought this unusual, antique ornament at an antique mall at least 20 years ago. It has become one of my favorites, even though it has no personal sentimental value to me as a family heirloom. It was kept in good condition since probably the 1930's, so I'm sure it once had a lot of sentimental value for SOMEBODY. The top of the ornament resembles the top of a pineapple, with plastic-like plumes (celluloid?) coming out of it, all covered with glitter. I'm thinking that this might have been made sometime in the mid to late 30's, because parts of the ornament remind me of things in the Wizard of Oz, which came out in 1939, Hollywood's most prolific year for the best movies. The face on the cherub looks older, though, and I have no doubt that it was modeled earlier, maybe in the early to mid 1930's. I love the history of the piece and wish I knew more about it! We have very detailed resin ornaments now, but this one looks like it was either some kind of Bakelite, or even papier mache. Whenever it was made, I love it!
My mother.... it struck me comparing photos how similar these two were in many ways. Above is my mom, taken by dad on his Nikkormat on Kodacolor II in July, 1981 at Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast, one of her favorite spots in the world.
and then below, a photo I took last summer, July 2017, with my T2 (a camera I'd just inherited from my grandfather who passed in April the same year) on Velvia 100F at Kalaloch on the Washington Coast, another of her most favorite places anywhere. She was standing next to me when I took the lower photo. It was the last walk we took together alone.
Now, three seasons later, I see these two again and am awed. I think she's still standing next to me. And if I'm honest, I was barely able to frame, type, and post this.
Thank God for photos. And all the rest of it...
