Volgende maandag is het drie jaar geleden dat ik ’s ochtends plaatsnam op het landbouwweggetje bij de brug van de Rue de la Pire in Braine-le-Comte, een uitstekend ochtendpunt voor treinen richting Hennuyères, Tubize en Brussel. 2022 was het laatste jaar waarin de Fretjes van SNCF instonden voor de ballasttreinen vanuit Somain naar Quenast, en het was vanzelfsprekend dat dat ook mijn doel was die ochtend. Het zou echter niet mijn finale plaat worden – die volgde pas een dag later, in de sleuf van Neufvilles.
Met weemoed kijk ik tegenwoordig terug op die periode, die toch een vrij interessant treinverkeer opleverde op lijn 96. Momenteel rijdt er, buiten de Ouigo, weinig dat de moeite is om voor buiten te komen. Zelfs van de ballasttreinen die dit voorjaar opnieuw met Traxx-locs reden, heb ik nog geen enkele foto gezien. Blijkbaar vindt niemand die nog interessant?

Next Monday marks three years since I took up position early in the morning along the farm road by the Rue de la Pire bridge in Braine-le-Comte — a great spot to catch trains heading toward Hennuyères, Tubize, and Brussels. 2022 was the final year SNCF’s BB 67400s handled the ballast trains from Somain to Quenast, and naturally, that was my goal that morning. My final shot, however, came only a day later, down in the cut at Neufvilles.
I now look back on that period with some nostalgia — it brought quite interesting traffic to line 96. These days, aside from the Ouigo, there’s not much worth heading out for. Even the ballast trains, which returned this spring behind Traxx locomotives, seem to go unnoticed. Has no one found them interesting anymore?
