In nineteen two.

Per an inscription around the corner from this one, here was the Deutsche Evangelical Lutheran Friedens Kirche.

Friedens Kirche equals "Peace Church."

Was Arthur Pillsbury a Friedens Kirche worshiper? Or was he just there to get paid as an archt.

Peace churches soon became unfashionable in the U.S., and have never since been fashionable.

Come home to Park Plaza Auto Storage, erected 1938.

I love quiet evenings at the parking garages downtown.

Aye here's a picture of the parking garage when it opened in 1938, at which time it was named the Auto Hotel. The recessed interstitial areas were originally filled with glass block instead of windows and brown panels. Here's a construction pic too.

Its name ought to be changed back to Auto Hotel imo.

"A picture of a fourplex brings to life the quasquicentury just passed, in the form of our imagined memories of events in the lives of the fourplex's residents during that period," I bellowed as I took pictures from across the street. Then I waved at the faces that appeared in the windows.

From 1977 came a two-story office building with numerous decorative mansards.

The upstairs people resented the mansards for partially blocking their views from their windows: "Our windows were already so skinny, and here were these awful mansards, further restricting our view to the side," said several in unison.

A souvenir picture of the McLean County Courthouse in Bloomington, Illinois, erected 1976.

People like to look at souvenir pictures of the county courthouses of Illinois, by which they fondly recall their happy interactions with the county governments of Illinois.

Verily the McLean County Law and Justice Center was built in 1976, and the top floors were added in 1990, and the elevator lobby in front was added in 1997. I study the history of architecture.

From 1969 came this classy set of zigzags.

Parked outside were a 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander, a 2014 Ford Taurus, and a 2024 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid. All of them were mine at the time, but I have since sold the Outlander.

1969 crystal palace of highrise student dorms. by Tim Kiser

1969 crystal palace of highrise student dorms.

It's an impressive building but after 55 years I'd expect that its immediate surroundings would be a bit more dressed up.

Funfact: The small commercial building in the foreground was built in 1961.

A 28-story brown zigzag from 1969. by Tim Kiser

A 28-story brown zigzag from 1969.

Here were the Watterson Towers, a residence hall at Illinois State University, said by the university to have "opened in 1968," and said by Wikipedia to have been "completed in 1969," and said by various online sources to have been "completed in 1968" or "opened in 1969."

According to an October 1968 article in the student newspaper, the first five floors were opened to 220 students in the fall of that year, while the remainder of the building continued to be built. According to a December 1969 article in the same newspaper, the "North Tower was due to be finished in September of 1968 and was just completed, and the South Tower was scheduled to completed in September of 1969 but is still not done." So it's possible it wasn't technically "completed in 1969," but I haven't seen any online sources asserting it was "completed in 1970."
