Holding at Tabernash

UP 4533 and UP 4404 sit on the main at Tabernash, waiting for the arrival of the eastbound California Zephyr, currently in Fraser Canyon. Plenty of snow still remains on the Continental Divide, as well as on the runs at the Winter Park ski resort. Note some of the houses in Tabernash in the background are located in between the main track and the siding.

UP 8594 E, Tie Siding, WY

Union Pacific SD70ACe #8594 is crawling up-grade at Tie Siding, WY in the early morning hours with a long Manifest in tow, passing underneath the historic signal bridge that guards the three different mains that drop into Laramie

Katy in Farmington

After getting word that UP 1988 was leading NPAL, I figure it'd show up on Easter. A friend tells me it's through Owatonna at 09:50...and I race out the door to Farmington. After waiting a little bit, it shows up. Was a nice treat on Easter

Eight out of Tunnel 1

Westbound Union Pacific MNYGJ (Denver’s North Yard to Grand Junction) manifest freight out of Tunnel 1 at Plainview, Colorado, on March 23, 2002. Eight locomotives lead the train, including GE AC4400CWs in SP and C&NW paint.

Chasing the Sun

Finding a very brief break in the heavy clouds that had covered the majority of Western Iowa/Eastern Nebraska, Union Pacific's business passenger train glides west into Arlington, NE, heading towards Denver and eventually Portland.

The Portland Rose

Shortly after departing Council Bluffs, Union Pacific's business passenger train flies northbound into Crescent, IA. The train is headed for Denver on this leg, but is ultimately bound for Portland. Even though the train came from Council Bluffs, with downtown Omaha faintly seen in the distance I thought it would be appropriate to title this one after UP's Omaha-Portland passenger service.

Herzog

Recently a Herzog ballast train visited the former Pere Marquette, dumping lots of stone on the Grand Rapids and Plymouth Subs. With a pair of Union Pacific GEs on the head end and a third as DPU on the bottom, W085 is wasting no time as they blast up the hill towards Fox. Further east of town, they will slow to drop stone over a 50 mile stretch of the Plymouth Sub.

Powering Our People Through the Park

With UP's 'Employee Pride Unit' up front, a Mexico-bound manifest rolls through Memorial Park in West Houston. The locomotive was painted in 2019 to honor the men and women that make Union Pacific run. Employee reaction has been mixed.

YER62 at Depot Jct

Tied down in the middle of its short run, presumably due to congestion at Englewood Yard ahead, the Eureka to Englewood transfer holds tight at Depot Jct on UP's Houston Sub.

Due to the history of how lines were consolidated under time, this train isn't blocking a main track despite Main 2/the Passenger Main being to the left. The track the train is occupying is actually a long crossover between Main 2 at Depot Jct and Main 1 at Chaney Jct, and plenty long for a short train like this one.
