SD Mexican consulate 1-14-17

The consulate for Los Estado Unidos de Mexico ("The United States of Mexico" the country's official name...) in the "Little Italy" section of San Diego, CA. I'm not quite sure why Mexico needs a consulate this close to the country itself. (only about 20 miles south of here...) Taken by a Nikon D610 at ISO 400 with a Nikkor 35-135mm ƒ 3.5-4.5 AF lens. (at 42)

Gent in the khaki shirt is a San Diego parking enforcement officer, probably about to give the white car a ticket for parking overtime in a white (passenger loading) zone

Seller of tapetes - Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca, Mexico

Oaxaca de Juárez, or simply Oaxaca, is probably one of my favourite cities out of all the ones I visited when in Mexico. It is incredibly colourful and cheerful and was home to some of the most welcoming people we met during our trip. The buildings aren't any taller than a couple of storeys either, due to the soft ground, like a small town that goes on and on =)

Oaxaca is the capital and largest city of the Mexican state of the same name, Oaxaca. The state is located on the southern part of the country, bordering the Pacific Ocean in the south, and the city is found in the foothills of the Sierra Madre, at the base of the Cerro del Fortín extending to the banks of the Atoyac River.

Oaxaca is well known for a variety of products and has long been considered as Mexico’s culinary capital. The most notable aspect of the Oaxacan cuisine, having the greatest variety of moles of the whole country, as well as, chapulines (fried grasshoppers with chile - yummy!), chocolate (especially hot chocolate), and mezcal. However, surrounding villages and towns of Oaxaca are also closely linked economically and culturally to Oaxaca which gives birth to the above scene. Artisans from Teotitlán del Valle for example, are known to make tapetes (throw rugs), handmade from woven wool, which use natural dyes from various plants, insects and stones. These rugs generally very colourful and have native indigenous motifs although some now have more modern designs.

Waterholes - Puerto Morelos, Riviera Maya, Mexico

I arrived at the hotel the night before but thought it would be too dangerous to venture on the reefs in the dark, on my own (actually gets pretty dangerous to the left of the shot - with bigger waves, really sharp reefs and pools that could easily trip you over if you're not careful). Sure enough though, I woke up before sunrise the next morning hoping to find something to shoot and this spot is the first of a few I stumbled upon... Bit of luck never hurts I guess! =)

Btw this was actually taken on the 31st, messed up the date when changing the clock on the camera. There's no way I would've been out of bed at that time on the 1st!
