Santa Clara’s Central Park was once again teeming with people as thousands turned out for another successful Art & Wine Festival. For the 42nd year, the community-driven event welcomed artists, food vendors and families to Santa Clara for a weekend of music, entertainment and fun. A former Santa Clara police captain who was part of a group that orchestrated a bizarre campaign of harassment won’t spend any more time behind bars. Brian Gilbert, 56, of San Jose, was the last in a ring of seven former eBay employees to see sentencing for cyberstalking. The group targeted a Massachusetts couple that published a newsletter critical of the company. Anytime public safety departments face an unknown, gauging how to deal with it can be difficult. This year’s movement of Santa Clara’s fireworks display to Mission College was just such an unknown. But Santa Clara police and fire department officials said the change of venue went off without a hitch. The police department had 175 calls for service, said Lt. The Westside Major Division Padres needed just two-and-a-half innings to defeat the Cupertino Giants in their Tournament of Champions (TOC) matchup. With home field advantage, the Padres took the field first and starting pitcher Naithik Viswajith stayed calm and composed despite a couple of unlucky hits dropping in behind him.
