Historic Watermill of Uppel-Althena

This traditional Dutch watermill, located in the quiet hamlet of Uppel-Althena, is a beautiful example of 17th-century rural engineering. Once powered by the steady stream of the Althena brook, it played a key role in local agriculture by grinding grain into flour for the surrounding villages. Though no longer in active use, it remains a well-preserved symbol of cultural heritage and craftsmanship, nestled in the peaceful Dutch countryside.

note:* In 1922, Vilnians refered to these as "Flea wagons" in reference to Jews who rode them and carried fleas and germs. It was these first "innocent" remarks children grew up with which eventually led later to the Holocaust.
