veerpont Akersloot (1)

The Netherlands-Akersloot
The history of the Akersloot ferry goes back to around 1800. But since the draining of lake Schermeer and the development of the Schermer polder (1635) there were possibly earlier, private ferryboats. The ferry connects Akersloot and hinterland with Zuidschermer and the N244 motorway, on this spot in fact part of the ring dyke of the Schermer polder. For this purpose the ferry crosses the Noordhollandsch Canal.
"En als de pont zo lang was als de breedte van de stroom
Dan kon hij blijven liggen, zei me laatst een econoom" (drs P.)

Aerial view on Natura 2000 nature reserve Kalverpolder, with one of its main ditches Nieuwe vaart. Behind the mill the reclaimed land of the former lake Wijdewormer, and its dranage canal, are visible. Image made with kite and camera (attached to the kite's line). © Tom Kisjes

Benningbroek-Witte Kerkje (3)

The Netherlands-Benningbroek
The West-Frisian village Benningbroek is split in two by the A7 highway. East of the highway this charming white church is clearly visible. This eastern part of Benningbroek is in fact a hamlet called De Buurt (the Neighborhood). The originally catholic church dates from 1548; after the Reformation it was confiscated and used by the protesters. Since the 16th century lots of restoration work has been carried out. Image made with kite and camera, attached to the kite's line. KAP mate Ramon (Kappix) accompanied me during this outing. © Tom Kisjes
