OGDEN POINT BREAKWATER - Victoria, BC

Victoria, BC Canada

Ogden Point is a deep water port facility located in the southwestern corner of the city of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Its advantageous geographic location on the southern tip of Vancouver Island, by the Strait of Juan de Fuca, close to major population centres Vancouver and Seattle, has made it an attractive cruise ship destination. It also serves as a ship repair and supply facility for cruise ships and other vessels such as deep sea cable laying ships. Ogden Point also has a heliport with frequent service to Vancouver Harbour, Vancouver International Airport, and Seattle. The port lies at the eastern entrance of Victoria Harbour. For smaller boats there is boat ramp for trailerable boats.

OGDEN POINT BREAKWATER - Victoria, BC

Victoria, BC Canada

Ogden Point in Victoria is a popular waterfront destination known for its scenic views, vibrant marine activity, and the iconic breakwater stretching into the ocean. Located just a short distance from downtown Victoria, it’s a favourite spot for both locals and visitors to enjoy a leisurely walk, watch cruise ships dock, or soak in the beautiful coastal scenery.

The Ogden Point Breakwater in Victoria is enjoyable for anyone looking to enjoy a relaxing and scenic walk by the ocean. The breakwater stretches 765 meters, offering a pleasant, accessible stroll along the top with guard rails for safety. Along the way, at the end, there’s a lighthouse and benches that provide fantastic views of the cruise ships docked nearby and the open waters of Juan de Fuca Strait. It’s a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy the fresh sea breeze.

For those who want to get closer to the water, stairs lead down to the lower level, where you can walk across the massive 15-ton granite blocks that have been in place for over a century. This area offers a unique perspective of the breakwater and a chance to see people fishing or scuba divers exploring the waters below.

Steller Sea Lions

Steller sea lions, the largest of the "eared" seals, have attracted considerable attention in recent decades, both from scientists and the general public, due to significant (and largely unexplained) declines in their numbers over an extensive portion of their northern range, notably in Alaska. Eastern and Asian stocks are relatively stable but Western numbers have declined 70-80% - particularly along Alaska. Factors that may be contributive include overfishing (especially fatty Alaska Pollock and herring), predators (Orca and Sharks), shooting by fishermen, and climate change.

COMOX HARBOUR (or PORT AUGUSTA) has provided shelter for ocean travellers and marine explorers for centuries.

It has been known by many names, but it was best known as “The Land of Plenty” by the local K’ómoks First Nation, who lived here for centuries before European explorers arrived. The well-known “Beaver” was one of the early exploration ships that made marine history.

The boats and ships came to the Comox Valley for many reasons; to explore, to trade, to survey, to work, and like many today, to rest and enjoy the beauty of the area.

Tonquin Beach

Tonquin Beach is one of several small beaches just outside the town of Tofino on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Tonquin trail which leads to these secluded beaches offers great views along with exposure to west coast ecosystems. The trail is relatively short at 3km and includes boardwalks and stairs for easy access to the beaches.

M.V. William J. Stewart 1932 (Canadian Princess) by Sonja Peterson Ph♡tography

M.V. William J. Stewart 1932 (Canadian Princess)

Ucluelet, Vancouver Island,
BC Canada

The Canadian Princess steamship on the Waterfron Trail was previously named the William J. Stewart during her 43 years of service as a hydrographic survey ship (1932-1975).

She was considered one of the finest coastal ships in Canada and made an important contribution to the safety of mariners. She was nearly sunk in 1944 after a collision with Ripple Rock near Campbell River but she was beached and repaired.

In 1979 she was refurbished by the Oak Bay Marine Group (OBMG) and it was towed there as a floating resort, restaurant and lounge.

Please feel free to check out the news article and videos I have posted to my new Facebook page, about the Canadian Princess' farewell voyage that took place on Sept. 30/16 out of Ucluelet, BC...
