The Lower Bedeque one-room school house was constructed in 1886 using some of the structural timbers from the earlier 1840 building. It served the community of Lower Bedeque from that time until 1962 when it was finally replaced and closed. It was preserved and moved to its current site in Central Bedeque in 2021 and is now maintained as part of the Bedeque Historical Museum. The famous Canadian author who wrote Anne of Green Gables, Lucy Maud Montgomery, taught at this school from 1897 until 1898, a factor which may have contributed to its eventual preservation.
This photo was taken with the Canon EOS R and an all manual Laowa FFII 35mm f/0.95 lens. I reworked it in post, removing some distracting modern additions from the image and converting it to Black and White with a high contrast look. My intention was to present the building more as it may have looked during the time of its use as a school.
