Wood Duck Jump Day_2025_Inside View

15 Wood ducklings hatched on Monday morning, May 19 and jumped out the following morning at 8:20 when their mother called them from the pond in my rock quarry, located 2 1/2 meters below. If you turn up the sound, you can hear her calling her brood, letting them know it is time to join her in the outside world.
I thought the last little guy wasn’t going to make it. You have to admire his spirit; that takes lots of heart, refusing to give up. My mother would have said that they didn't clean up their room before leaving home.
For the outside view, check the previous video.

Wood duck jump day 2025

15 Wood ducklings jumped out of the nest box at 8:20am on Tuesday, May 20th, 36 to 38 days after the mother duck began incubation. They left the pond within 5 minutes after jumping out and headed to the creek 1/4 mile down the road. Amazingly, the mother duck knew exactly where the opening was that I created under the fence and it makes me think it was the same mother duck that was here in the past, since she knew right where to go. Happy trails to our little duckling friends. I hope they return year after year and live happy Wood duck lives.
To see the nest cam view, showing the ducklings in the interior of the nest box, please see the next video.

The Ohio River floods on a regular basis. To prevent the city from flooding, this flood wall was built in the 1930s, too late to prevent the flood that ruined my parents' first home.
