York Gate, Broadstairs, Kent.
York Gate, which is Grade 2 Listed, is across Harbour Street, the route up from Viking Bay. Most people now days are completely oblivious to it.
It was built in 1540 to protect Broadstairs from invasion from the beach.There were once massive doors and a portcullis.
After a great storm in 1795 the gates were repaired in 1797.
The Gates get their name from "The Grand old Duke of York"
