Το κορυφαίο βραβείο πολιτικού ντοκιμαντέρ NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL κέρδισε η δημοσιογράφος Αθηνά Κρικέλη. Το πολιτικό ντοκιμαντέρ: «Οι εγκλωβισμένοι στην Κύπρο» κέρδισε το 1ο βραβείο διεθνώς ανάμεσα σε 30.000 συμμετοχές. Η Αθηνά Κρικέλη γεννήθηκε στην Θεσσαλονίκη και ακολoύθησε σπουδές δημοσιογραφίας στο Λονδίνο, ενώ έκανε μεταπτυχιακό στα ΜΜΕ στο πανεπιστήμιο «Νέο Σχολείο» της Νέας Υόρκης. Το 1997 βραβεύτηκε από τον πρώην δήμαρχο της Νέας Υόρκης κ. Τζουλιάνι για την προσφορά της στην διαμόρφωση της κουλτούρας της πόλης. Eίναι επίσης πολιτική ανταποκρίτρια της ΕΡΤ3.
