This re-panelled and updated Volvo B58 was in its final month with Astons, and was about to be sold to Catterall's at Southam, together with the RDU 4 plate. But Astons re-acquired the plate in late 1987 (by this time from a Scottish operator), and it went on to be worn by 12 fleet members over many years.
It had been new as VNK 879M to Keith Spanner's Diadem Coaches from St Albans.

I’d failed to reach the summits of Meallan nan Uan and Sgùrr a' Mhuilinn last September due to high winds. And once again the weather wasn’t looking too clever with thunder and lightening moving in. But the forecast suggest a decent enougth window in the morning, so I got up early, skipped the extra wee walk out to the top of Sgurr a’ Choire-rainich and this time got them done.

My week up north in September 2023 was not the best. The first day was fantastic, but after that things went downhill a little. The forecast for the Friday suggested that the wind may not be quite as severe towards the east and clouds may be above the tops at times. So I headed over to the tiny little hamlet of Strathanmore in the hope of bagging a coupe of Corbetts. I was just short of the final pull up to the summit of Meallan nan Uan when I decoded to turn back. Basically standing up was becoming increasing difficult and I decided against trying to cross the shallow col before the summit. I headed back down, leaving Meallan nan Uan and Sgùrr a' Mhuilinn for another day.
