CENTRAL AMERICAN AGOUTI Dasyprocta punctata in Ecuador. This is one of two young Central American Agoutis that have been following their mother at a location along the Vía Cunuco, about one mile northwest of Mindo, in northwestern Ecuador at 9:51 AM on March 21, 2023.
The Central American Agouti belongs to the family Dasyproctidae. Agoutis are distributed from southern Mexico through Central America south to southern Bolivia and northern Argentina. Other names include Guaqueque Alazán y Aguti (México), Cuinco y ñenque (Panamá), Guatín (Colombia), Picure (Venezuela) y Guatusa (Costa Rica, Honduras, Ecuador).

This was observed along the Vía Cunuco, about one mile northwest of Mindo, in northwestern Ecuador at 9:50 AM on March 21, 2023.
