Technically, the photo leaves much to be desired, but the moment is so spectacular that I can't resist showing this scene of this relentless hunter. During the 3 hours we spent there, it surely caught more than a dozen rats and just as many lizards, which it immediately carried into the bushes. The smaller prey, it ate right away.

I’m taking a break from my Australian photos to showcase the bird of the moment in Portugal. Although I already have photos of this species, it’s the first time it has been seen in Portugal, and only 15 minutes from my house, so it’s hard to resist. Even more so because the bird allows for incredible close approaches, a behavior that is nothing like our shy native birds.
