La Pie-Grièche Grise est considérée comme éteinte en Suisse. Celle-ci, j'ai pu l'observer à Fuerteventura lors de l'ascension pour le Volcan Hondo.

The Great Grey Shrike is considered extinct in Switzerland. I was able to observe this one in Fuerteventura during the ascent to Volcan Hondo.

Technically, the photo leaves much to be desired, but the moment is so spectacular that I can't resist showing this scene of this relentless hunter. During the 3 hours we spent there, it surely caught more than a dozen rats and just as many lizards, which it immediately carried into the bushes. The smaller prey, it ate right away.

I’m taking a break from my Australian photos to showcase the bird of the moment in Portugal. Although I already have photos of this species, it’s the first time it has been seen in Portugal, and only 15 minutes from my house, so it’s hard to resist. Even more so because the bird allows for incredible close approaches, a behavior that is nothing like our shy native birds.

Curiosidades : Los volantones de alcaudón común y alcaudón dorsirrojo son muy parecidos. No obstante, los alcaudones comunes jóvenes poseen una distintiva mancha clara en la base de las plumas primarias y, a diferencia de los alcaudones dorsirrojos, no tienen el obispillo castaño rojizo.
