On our way out

We took a brief break here before leaving for our day's next destination.

More than six

A few more people than the six mentioned in the previous photo are interred here. I do not know who they are beyond that they are family relations.

High corner

Looking almost directly up, and in conjunction with daylight streaming in through grill work, the corner tiles in the mausoleum take on a more blue aspect.

Sarcophagi

Several sarcophagi were located within the mausoleum.

From the internet: "This architectural complex with its azure dome contains the tombs of Timur, his sons Shah Rukh and Miran Shah and grandsons Ulugh Beg and Muhammad Sultan. Also honoured with a place in the tomb is Timur's teacher Sayyid Baraka."

Arches & tiles

If you hadn't noticed by now, I'm fascinated with the tile-work & the under-arch architecture of these old buildings.

Watering Trees

Turning around I thought it odd to see someone watering the trees using only a watering can. The scale of the effort somehow doesn't seem right.

Back to the Complex

With the new day we went back to the Gur-i Amir Сomplex to have a look around in daylight.

A different beauty

Without last night's colored lighting the details of the tiles was more easily seen. Even in shadow.

I wonder if anyone has counted exactly how many individual tiles are used in this complex, including the interiors. I'm guessing it is in the upper hundreds of thousands if not more than a million.

of the large entry into the Mausoleum is this smaller one. IIRC we entered here for a quick look-see.

The other side

Once through the gate I took a look up at the back side of it. It seemed every bit as elaborate as the out-facing side.

Close up

The tiles on the back of the gate really shine with direct sunlight.

Okay, now it is time to turn around and explore what is behind us.
