The marvellous Barrow's Stores in Birmingham's Corporation Street were the city's answer to Fortnum & Mason's and, as a child, were one of my favourite treats - well, the toasted teacakes in the cafe were! In the mid-1950s they commissioned Edward Bawden and the Curwen Press for various items of advertising and publicity including this fine headed paper showing the produce available from their 'Prize Dairy'. Along with various rounds of cheese can be seen a dairy herd, looking quite nonchalently at a yapping dog!
