Moustached Puffbird (Malacoptila mystacalis)

February 21, 2025, at El Ensueño, Quindío, Colombia.
A pair of Moustached Puffbirds (Malacoptila mystacalis) is always present within the same group of trees within a radius of about 30 meters. They're still and silent, occasionally making a sortie to the ground, preying on insects or invertebrates. On this day, I found one quietly observing me while perched nearby.
The Mustached Puffbird is a common resident of the Andes of Venezuela and Colombia at elevations from 800 to 2,100 meters (2,600 to 6,900 feet).
