Bristol Flyers vs London Lions, British Basketball League (BBL) game on Sunday 2nd April 2023, at SGS WISE Arena, New Road, Stoke Gifford, Bristol, during the 2022-23 season.

About the photographs.

The player wearing the white kit with the number 3 on the back is Aaron Best, playing for London Lions, and threw the ball at the basket.

In the front of him, attempting to block the ball, is Malcolm Delpeche of Bristol Flyers.

Best was born in Scarborough, Ontario, Canada on the 9th of January 1992, and Delpeche came from Wilmington, Delware, United States. He was born on the 28th of September 1995.

About the teams.

The Bristol Flyers was formed in 2006 by a merger of two former Bristol based teams, the Filton Flyers and the Bristol Academy, to become known as Bristol Academy Flyers. They started in the English Basketball League, in Division 2, and one year later, they moved up to Division 1.

By 2013, they got financial backing from the owner of Bristol City football club. As part of the deal, they moved into the top level franchise based BBL, for the 2014-15 season, that was when they became known simply as Bristol Flyers. Their highest finish in BBL was 4th place during the 2021-22 season.

London Lions actually started out as Hemel Hempstead Laker in 1977, and changed their name to Hemel Royals before moving to Watford, and finally moved to Milton Keynes.

They became known as Milton Keynes Lions, and that was when their performance improved, including winning the BBL Cup during the 2007-08 season.

By 2012, due to losing their home arena in Milton Keynes, they were relocated to London, thus renamed as the London Lions.

The photographs were shot with a 50mm lens from the courtside, with special thanks go to Cardiff Met Archers for allowing me to do the photography.

About the teams.

The Wales based Cardiff Met Archers started in 1999, as a university basketball team. They have about 19 different teams, range from Under-10s to Seniors, and men’s teams as well as women’s teams.

The women’s senior team (seen here in the photograph) is the only team in a top-level elite franchise-based league. They joined the Women’s British Basketball League when it was first set up in 2014, and to date, are still in the WBBL.

The Oaklands Wolves is an English women’s basketball team based at Oaklands College, in St Albans, Hertfordshire. It was founded in 2009, and started playing in the professional level women’s basketball team from the 2016-17 season onwards.

Had his leg touched the ball, it would have been a foul.

Olison was born in Memphis, Tennesse, while Delpeche was born in Wilmington, Delware, both of them in the United States. Zubcic however was born in Croatia,
