To stand in Maria Theresien Platz in Vienna is to be surrounded by some beautifully impressive architecture. In the center stands a statue of Empress Maria Theresien complete with majestic fountains. On either side of the statue, you can find the Imperial Fine Arts Museum and on the other, the Imperial Natural History Museum - pictured here. What began as a private collection in the hands of a Florentine - Jean de Baillou - was purchased by Maria Theresa's husband in 1750 and ended up as a starter for what became the Naturhistorisches Museum Wien. Emperor Franz Joseph I commissioned the Museum and it opened to the public on August 10th, 1889.

The Kettensteg suspension bridge is historic in its own right, being the oldest and longest iron suspension bridge in Europe. But the Schlayerturm (Schlayer Tower) behind it has been a part of Nuremberg's fortification, protecting the city, since the 15th century.
