This Citybus looks like it was gasping for breath - maybe the climb up the M62 to Hartshead Moor had taken its toll !
After eight years with Wright's of Wrexham, this well-known vehicle moved to Rossendale Transport in 1993, but it had only very recently been outshopped in Ellen Smith colours. It would spend eight years here as well, split equally between the Ellen Smith coaching unit up to 1997, and then as part of the main bus fleet until 2001.
It then passed to John Whitehead's Pioneer operation which by then was based in Rossendale's site at Rochdale. He got nearly 6 years out of it, in his 'striking' purple and yellow livery, and then, against all odds, it had its longest period with one operator ! Jim Liddell at Auchinleck bought it in 2007, and ran it all the way through to 2016 - I am sure a 31-year life was not what was envisaged for it back in 1985.
