This is 'Shepperton Ferry', the name can just be read, one of 3 train ferries completed for the Southern Railway in the 1930's.
Became the auxiliary minelayer and transport ship 'HMS Shepperton' during WWII, and later had a gantry fitted aft for unloading up to 16 locomotives on to quaysides.
Seen here in British Railways livery in the docks at Dunkirk, with Dunkirk Steelworks behind.

Polish Ocean Lines good-looking general cargo ship 'Jozef Conrad' off the breakwater at Dunkirk.
She was heavily damaged in 1972 during the bombing of North Vietnam and subsequently scrapped, causing a political incident, hence this view is likely to be 1960's.

For almost 4 decades the Saint-Germain plied across the Channel, primarily as the SNCF Dunkerque-Dover train ferry, seen here entering the docks at Dunkerque.
By looking at this ship, Chantilly, Compiegne, Valencay, Villandry etc, it is possible to see an SNCF design evolution.

On the left can be seen one of the older British Rail train ferries - Hampton Ferry, Twickenham Ferry or Shepperton Ferry. I lean towards the latter (Twickenham Ferry had ALA funnel, Hampton Ferry was scrapped earlier).
