One can not try to understand the changing image of a female without turning to film. Also the kind that is not recognized by the Academy. Immediately after the invention of the motion picture in 1895 there were films made of women dancing, smiling, teasing, but most importantly moving... sometimes in advanced stages of undress. The invention of the 8mm film and "home" cameras and projectors resulted in widespread of amateur cinematography and naturally there isn't more charming subject for "home" movies than girls. 50's men's magazines were full of "stag" film advertisement, a new field of which Irving Klaw was undeniable king. And Bettie Page was his queen.
In my quest to recreate vintage vixens, I could not omit the moving images.
Here is my moving self portrait tribute to Bettie and Mr. Klaw and the whole genre of 50's "figure movies" with a touch of punk and Peaches.
