Im Jahr 2004 fand in Payerne die Internationale Flugschau Air04 statt.
Am 8. Juli 2010 startete das experimentelle Langstreckenflugzeug Solar Impulse 1 vom Militärflugplatz Payerne aus zum weltweit ersten bemannten 26-stündigen Solarflug. Payerne wurde auch zum Heimatflughafen des Nachfolgeflugzeugs Solar Impulse 2 (HB-SIB), dessen Erstflug am 2. Juni 2014 von Payerne aus erfolgte.
Vom 30. August 2014 bis 7. September 2014 fand auf dem Flugplatz Payerne die internationale Flugshow Air14 statt.
Payerne AB ist Heimat der F/A-18 Hornet- Staffeln Fliegerstaffel 17 Falcons und Fliegerstaffel 18 Panthers , der Miliz -F-5E Tiger II -Staffel Fliegerstaffel 6 Ducks und der Transportstaffel Lufttransportstaffel 1. Von Payerne aus sind alle Flugzeugtypen der Schweizer Luftwaffe im Einsatz
