Le pic maculé est un pic spécialisé avec quelques caractéristiques intéressantes. Il a un régime alimentaire spécialisé de suceur de sève (d'où le nom de « Sapsucker » en anglais). Je l'ai observé ici en train d'entailler l'écorce des branches d'un peuplier. On voit la sève couler sur la photo.

The Yellow-Bellied Sapsucker is a specialized woodpecker with some interesting characteristics. It has a specialized sap-sucking diet (hence the name "Sapsucker" in English).
I observed this one here nicking the bark of the branches of a poplar tree. You can see the sap flowing on the picture.
