August reading

Some light reading in August, with cats, three dogs, sheep through the ages, something romantic, Mma Ramotswe, ER detecting misdemeanours in the cellars of Buckingham Palace, Lost Words (for my reading group) and Marcovaldo in French.

The sheep book was eye-opening, Marcovaldo very entertaining; very much liked Lost Words because of the setting, mostly in Jericho, Oxford, where I lived and worked in a bookshop on Walton Street. I read the one about cats in Manchester Airport; it passed the time but I'm not going to rave about it.

The Dictionary Of Lost Words

author Pip Williams has delved into the archives of the Oxford English Dictionary to tell this highly original story. The Dictionary of Lost Words is a delightful, lyrical, and deeply thought-provoking celebration of words and the power of language to shape the world.......
.....a Reese's Book Club selection, a bestseller NYTimes.....also available as a Kindle ebook and with Audible narration. I decided on the ebook alone, fighting the urge to add the audio version. The narrator has a pleasing British female voice but Amazon wants too much for adding the Audible narration for this title.
I like the ebook to read in bed with lights out to rest my eyes, using my small old iPad for its light weight.
