Lt. Taylor Culbreath, Malvern Fire Dept., along with Staff Sgt. Martelle Miller, and Spc. Joslyn Burton, 39th Brigade Support Battalion, set up a potable water station, April 6, 2025, to support the City of Malvern and the surrounding communities until services can be restored.
The Arkansas Guardsmen delivered potable water after a lightning strike caused a catastrophic failure to the town’s water supply system.
The water tanker, commonly referred to as a “HIPPO,” can supply 2,000 gallons of water.

This photo connects to the Sustainable Development Goal of Clean Water and Sanitation, and to the ecological concept of resource availability.
The photo, taken earlier today in an on-campus dorm building, demonstrates the high availability of potable water on campus. However, clean water is not available everywhere, and lack of access to clean drinking water continues to be a critical problem for billions of people. The goal of SDG6 is to remedy this and ensure everyone has access to clean water. The water fountain shown here is just one form of many that this access could take.
The fact that drinking water is so readily available in some locations, such as here on campus as shown in the photo, but is not available in many other locations around the world is furthermore an example of resource availability, as it concerns the distribution of clean water resources.
Although water fountains such as these are a significant part of the urban ecology on UMD's campus, such sources of clean water are not available everywhere, a matter which concerns both resource availability and the Clean Water SDG.
