Known locally as "bichoita".

It is found in Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, regions of northern Argentina, and extreme southern Brazil, including the Pantanal. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist shrubland and heavily degraded former forest.

Chotoy

El chotoy (Schoeniophylax phryganophilus) es una especie de ave paseriforme de la familia Furnariidae, que se encuentra en Argentina, Brasil, Bolivia, Paraguay y Uruguay. Es la única especie del género Schoeniophylax.


Vive en campos abiertos con arbustos y árboles, en matorrales, jardines, pantanales y en el bosque de galería, por debajo de los 600 m de altitud.


Mide entre 19 y 22 cm de longitud. Tiene el píleo y hombros rojizos ferruginosos; lista superciliar blanca; rayada de negro y pardo por encima; barbilla amarilla. Su dorso y alas son de color marrón con estrías negruzcas; la garganta negra en el centro y blanca a los lados; pecho color canela, vientre blanco y cola larga con dos puntas. Su llamado característico es tcho-tcho-tcho-tcho-tchtch...
