Diabetes is a long-term illness that affects many people all over the world. Obesity is a major risk factor for type 2 diabetes, which accounts for around 90% of all diabetes cases. Type 2 diabetes is characterized by insulin resistance, where the body's cells become less responsive to insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps regulate blood sugar levels, so when cells don't respond to insulin properly, blood sugar levels can rise and lead to a diagnosis of diabetes.

High blood sugar is a sign of it, which can lead to a number of health problems if not treated. There are many things that can make a person more likely to get diabetes, and being overweight or obese is one of the most important ones.
