Green or Tasmanian Rosella (2) (Platycercus caledonicus)

I came across this escaped parrot recently on Strensall Common, near York, where it has been present for a few weeks according to local people. Photo taken against the evening sky so not the clearest. We hope it survives the present cold winter weather!

Green Rosella

We were fortunate to spot a group of Green Rosellas feeding in some bushes next to the Dove Lake Circuit walk in Cradle Mountain - Lake St Clair National Park. It was snowing at the time. As usual, Chris and I were walking quietly and carefully, so we managed to see a bit of the wildlife - like the parrots. While we were photographing them, a family with noisy kids came marching along the track and scared them away. :-( I guess the family was there to walk, we were there to see things.
