This species is common and widespread in mid to high elevation riparian areas and meadows throughout the western half of North America.

This species is common and widespread in mid to high elevation riparian areas and meadows throughout the western half of North America.

Also visible here are wiregrass (Juncus balticus subsp. ater), Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis subsp. pratensis), white sweetclover (Melilotus albus), sweetsage (Artemisia ludoviciana var. ludoviciana), and in the background rubber rabbitbrush (Ericameria nauseosa), big sagebrush (Artemisia tridentata subsp. tridentata), and desert bitterbrush (Purshia glandulosa).
