NEWPORT, R.I. – The U.S. Naval War College (NWC) celebrates the Chief Petty Officer 131st birthday April 1, 2024, alongside Naval Station Newport, Rhode Island’s Chief’s Mess. NWC President Rear Adm. Pete Garvin gave remarks during the celebration. The rank of Chief Petty Officer was officially established on April 1, 1893, and is now celebrated on that date annually by Navy commands around the world. Established in 1884, NWC informs today’s decision-makers and educates tomorrow’s leaders by providing educational experiences and learning opportunities that develop their ability to anticipate and prepare strategically for the future, strengthen the foundations of peace, and create a decisive warfighting advantage.
