Whitewater Falls Sign

Hey, you don't have to tell me twice! This shot was taken in 2006. I've been back but have not checked the sign to see if the number (15) has changed since.

From Wikipedia, Whitewater Falls is a series of waterfalls and cascades on the Whitewater River in North Carolina and South Carolina. Over the 3.5 mi (5.6 km) course of the river between the two falls, the Whitewater River drops 1,500 ft (460 m), and crosses the state border. Both Falls can be hiked to via the Foothills Trail or spur trails. Lookouts allow you to view both falls.

Upper Whitewater Falls - the taller of the two falls 411 ft (125 m), Nantahala National Forest, Jackson County, North Carolina

According to the U.S. Forest Service, "With a 411-foot plunge, Upper Whitewater Falls in North Carolina is the highest waterfall east of the Rockies."[1]
Lower Whitewater Falls - the shorter of the two falls 200 ft (61 m),is in Sumter National Forest, Oconee County, South Carolina

The address is Highway 281, Sapphire, NC 28774

South Nahanni River and Mason Rock, above Virginia Falls, Nahanni National Park Reserve, Northwest Territories, Canada

The South Nahanni River races down at high volume, around Mason Rock just above the famous Virginia Falls. This view is from a trail along the river above the falls, near the campground used by rafting and canoeing parties portaging to go down through the spectacular canyons of the South Nahanni. This is a small corner of the vast wilderness of Nahanni National Park Reserve in the southwest part of the Northwest Territories, Canada.

Bollinger Mill and Burfordville Covered Bridge 10-26-24 - No 2 by Nikon66

Bollinger Mill and Burfordville Covered Bridge 10-26-24 - No 2

Bollinger Mill is located along the Whitewater River in Burfordville, Missouri. The first mill in this location was built by George Frederick Bollinger in 1800 after receiving a Spanish land grant. The present mill was completed in 1867 on the original stone foundation of the previous mill, which was burned down during the Civil War. The mill is still operational (although it is now owned by the State of Missouri) and uses a water-driven turbine.

The adjacent Burfordville Covered Bridge is the oldest remaining covered bridge in the State of Missouri. Only three other covered bridges still exist in the State. It is unclear whether this bridge was completed before or after the Civil War as there is no mention of it in newspaper accounts until after the war. The bridge is 140 feet long and 12 feet wide and has a clearance of 14 feet high.

California, Riverside County, Whitewater Preserve, Sand to Snow National Monument

Late in August 2023, Hurricane Hilary dumped an extraordinary amount of rain in the Whitewater River watershed. Massive amounts of rock and soil was carried by the flood waters and deposited in Whitewater Canyon. This photograph was taken in March 2024.

The Whitewater River is a small permanent stream in western Riverside County, California, with some upstream tributaries in southwestern San Bernardino County. The river's headwaters are in the San Bernardino Mountains, and it terminates at the Salton Sea in the Sonoran Desert. In August 2023, Hurricane Hilary dumped an extraordinary amount of rain in the Whitewater River watershed causing flooding in Whitewater Canyon. A large amounts of rock and more permeable soils was deposited the canyon. This newly deposited layer is more permeable than the material the river once flowed over and more of the water sinks into the ground rather than flowing over the top of it. However, the river is still there, it is just below the surface (Source: The Wildlands Conservancy's Whitewater Preserve)
