Between 27 and 29 November 2006 an independent selection committee consisting of ‎Ms Margot Klingsporn (director Fokus Agentur, Hamburg), Ms Marion Schut Koelemij ‎‎(former director Transworld Features, Amsterdam) and Mr Adrian Evans (director Panos ‎Pictures, London) selected the 10 participants from amongst the 121 applications that ‎were received for the training. To ensure the highest level of integrity all applications were ‎judged anonymously and separately by the committee members. We are very pleased to ‎announce that the following 10 photographers have been selected:‎

‎"It was a tough job selecting the very best photographers from a collection of so many ‎good portfolios. Albeit honesty commands that I admit that some photographers need to ‎improve their technical skills, the general level of what I have seen was above ‎expectation.‎
Shooting an excellent image is first and foremost being able to look, to assess a situation, ‎to choose your angle and then frame it. Most of the photographers I have seen do master ‎that art. The next step is making an edit and being critical of your own work, in other ‎words do choose between two or more images of the same situation and don't be afraid ‎of throwing out images you have your doubts about. Good editing is composing a visual ‎story, whereby a photographer uses his images like a writer uses words to tell a story.‎
In the field of photojournalism it is of vital importance to deliver the images with adequate ‎captions, meeting the general rule of journalism ‘When, where, who, why, what and how'. ‎Some of the photographers need to pay attention to this skill as well as to the skill of ‎building a portfolio. ‎
A portfolio needs to be a true reflection of the abilities of a photographer, containing a ‎short story as well as a few striking single images. Moreover when building a portfolio ‎keep in mind what the purpose is; do you want to obtain an assignment for a newspaper ‎or magazine, are you applying for a grant, are you proposing a book or exhibition, or do ‎you want to be a participant in a World Press Photo workshop. My advice would be to ‎seek help from experienced professionals.‎

MARGOT KLINGSPORN (Germany), is the owner/director of Focus photo agency in ‎Hamburg, which represents such top agencies as Magnum and Contact Press Images as ‎well as German and international photographers. After studying economics Klingsporn ‎joined Stern's foreign desk in 1967. She subsequently worked for Die Zeit in different ‎positions prior to founding Focus in 1979(http://www.agentur-focus.de/)


MARION SCHUT KOELEMIJ (Netherlands), was the director-owner of Transworld ‎Features until 2002 , the agency she founded in Haarlem in 1967. In that capacity she ‎represented most of the large international agencies in the Netherlands and built a wealth ‎of business experience on a national and international level. She has been a judge on ‎several international contests and has curated numerous exhibitions.‎


ADRIAN EVANS (United Kingdom), studied History and History of Art at York University. ‎After graduation he drifted through many jobs including work as a bicycle courier and a ‎chicken counter. Through his interest in photography he eventually found himself work as ‎a picture researcher in a photo agency. Three years later he moved on to run Panos ‎Pictures - at that time a small photo agency specializing in issues around the ‎environment. After five years of overseeing the expansion of the agency he bought a ‎controlling share in the company. Since then it has grown to become the leading ‎documentary photo agency in the UK with a highly respected international reputation. ‎Last year in a new venture Panos Pictures opened Host gallery in central London in ‎association with the photography magazine foto8. I was excited to see so many potential photojournalists in a country we see so little news ‎from. If I had one piece of advice, it would be the same as
I give to all photographers, and that it is to photograph a wider range of stories. The same ‎subjects are photographed time and again prostitution, drug addicts, transsexuals, natural ‎disasters etc.. In a nation as large and populous as Iran there must thousands of untold ‎stories, and it is here that I urge photographers to look.‎

انتخاب بهترين عکاسان از ميان مجموعه ای که کارهای خوب زيادی در آن است کار دشواری بود. ‏اگرچه صادقانه بايد اعتراف کنم بعضی عکاسان نياز ‏به بهبود و اصلاح مهارت‌های فنی خود دارند اما سطح کلی آنچه که من ديدم ‏بالاتر از انتظار بود.‏

گرفتن يک عکس عالی در درجه اول توانايی ديدن، تشخيص يک موقعيت، انتخاب زاويه و سپس کادربندی آن است. بيشتر عکاسانی که من ديده‌ام در ‏اين زمينه مسلط هستند. قدم بعد ويرايش و نقدکار خود است. به عبارت ديگر انتخاب بين دو يا چند عکس در شرايط يکسان و نترسيدن از بيرون ‏کشيدن عکس‌‏هايی که به آنها شک ‏داريد. انتخاب و ويرايش درست، نوشتن يک داستان بصری ‏‎(visual story)‎‏ است که عکاس در آن، عکس هايش ‏را مثل نويسنده ای که از کلمات ‏برای داستانش استفاده ‏می کند بهره می گيرد.‏

‎در فوتوژورناليسم تهيه عکس‌هايی با زير نويس‌های کافی با رعايت قواعد معمول ژورناليسم " کی، کجا، چه کسی، چرا، چه و ‏چطور" يک ضرورت ‏‏اساسی است. بعضی از عکاسان نياز به توجه بيشتر به اين مهارت و همچنين مهارت ساخت يک مجموعه عکس ‏دارند.‏

يک مجموعه عکس بايد بازتاب درستی از قابليت‌های عکاس و شامل يک داستان کوتاه و تعدادی تک عکس تاثيرگذار باشد.‏
علاوه بر اين، هنگام ساخت يک مجموعه عکس به خاطر داشته باشيد هدف چيست؛ آيا می خواهيد ماموريتی ‏‎برای يک ‏روزنامه يا مجله انجام دهيد، ‏‏آيا برای دريافت يک بورس درخواست می‌دهيد، آيا برای يک کتاب يا نمايشگاه پيشنهاد داريد، يا می ‏خواهيد در کارگاه آموزشی ‏World Press Photo‏ ‏‏شرکت کنيد.‏
توصيه من، کمک گرفتن از حرفه‌ای‌های باتجربه است.‏

ADRIAN EVANS‏ ‏
بريتانيا
فارغ التحصيل تاريخ و تاريخ هنر از دانشگاه يورک است. پس از پايان تحصيل کارهای زيادی از جمله پيک دوچرخه‏ سوار و صندوقدار رستوران را تجربه کرد. با علاقه‌‏ای که به عکاسی داشت سرانجام به عنوان پژوهشگر عکس در يک ‏آژانس عکس مشغول ‏به کار شد. سه سال بعد از آنجا خارج شد تا آژانس ‏Panos ‎pictures ‎‏ را اداره کند. در آن زمان ‏Panos، آژانس کوچکی بود که به طور ‏تخصصی به موضوع محيط زيست می‌پرداخت. بعد از پنج سال با خريد سهم ‏قابل توجهی از آن ‏سرپرستی و توسعهPanos pictures ‎‏ را برعهده گرفت. پس ازآن ‏Panos pictures‏ ‏تبديل به يک آژانس پيشرو مستند در بريتانيا شد ‏که از ‏اعتبار و وجهه بين المللی بالايی برخوردار است. سال گذشته ‏Panos pictures‏ با ‏همکاری مجله عکاسی ‏foto8‎‏ ‏گالری جديدی را به نام ‏Host‏ در ‏مرکز لندن افتتاح کرد.‏ (http://www.panos.co.uk‎)

توصيه‎ Adrian Evans ‎برای شرکت کنندگان
من از ديدن اين همه فوتوژورناليست بالقوه در کشوری که ما‎ ‎اخبار کمی از آن می بينيم متعجب شدم. اگر توصيه‌ای برای عکاسان داشته باشم اين ‏است که، دامنه وسيع تری از داستان‌ها را‏‎ ‎عکاسی ‏کنيد. سوژه های مشابه بارها و بارها عکاسی شده است، روسپيان - معتادان - دو جنسی‌ها - ‏حوادث طبيعی و ....
در ملت بزرگ و پرجمعيت‎ ‎ايران بايد هزاران داستان ناگفته وجود داشته باشد و به اين خاطر است که من اصرار می‎ ‎کنم عکاسان ‏نگاه کنند‎.‎
