The locks on the Albert Canal at Wijnegem, just east of Antwerp.
There are three locks at this location which move ships 5,70m vertically.
Construction on the two smaller locks started in 1930 and was finished in 1939, as the canal was opened. They each measure 136m in length by 16m width.
In April 2023 one of the two older locks was drained for maintenance.

With vessels growing in size, a larger third lock was added in the 1990’s which measures 200m in length and 24m in width.
The canal was built between 1930 and 1939. It was opened by king Leopold III and queen Elisabeth on July 30th, 1939 but with the outbreak of World War 2, it could not be used until 1946, after all the bridges over the canal were reconstructed.
It has a length of 129km and links the port of Antwerp to the town of Liege and the river Meuse.
