I had a short walk on New Years Day up the BCN Old Mainline canal from Brasshouse Lane to the Summit Tunnel (coming back a Nature Trail).

I did see another view of this Sikh temple before I got here, but took this before walking back to The Hawthorns for my next tram to West Bromwich.

Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick - High Street, Smethwick

A quick look at the High Street in Smethwick before I headed into Smethwick Rolfe Street Station.

Sikh temple on the High Street in Smethwick - Guru Nanak Gurdwara Smethwick.

It was a church building when they purchased 130 High Street. It opened in 1961 (it is a total rebuild from the church to gurdwara).

Guru Nanak Gurdwara, High Street. The first Sikh temple, opened in 1962, was a conversion of the Congregational chapel of 1855. Rebuilt in stages by G.H.W. Ensor: meeting halls 1986, dining halls 1994 and the temple itself in 1996-7. Its tall façade dominates the street, a triumphant assertion of the Sikh com- munity. It poor architecture, hardly articulated, too flat, despite expensive materials (grey marble, with yellow detail and pink base). But the onion-shaped dome, above three- centred pediments, is a wonderful landmark, as if the Brighton Pavilion had come down on a visit.

White timber framed house on High Street in Henley-in-Arden. From the south, are getting closer to the centre now.

While I was getting shots of The White House on the other side of the road, I turned this way to find The Old White House at 130 High Street in Henley-in-Arden. Well I thought it said "The Old White House", turns out it is The Old White Horse. But it it is close enough (difference of one letter "r" instead of "u").
