Remarks/comments: Pioneer has done a few "Vancouver City" fire and RCMP police liveries on vehicles that were never sold here in North America. Like this Mercedes-Benz T2 van. The others were a 90's Ford Transit and a Fuso Super Ambulance.
I was born in Vancouver and I don't remember seeing these. I wonder where they were sold.

I present to you the Mercedes-Benz Observation Coach ! Or should that be 'lack of observation coach', if you look at the position of the passengers' eyeline at the rear of the vehicle.
I am not sure if it was actually built like this, or if it was a result of a brainwave by this or its previous operator, Philjo Motors of Wellington, Shropshire. Made to Measure Minicoaches at Stockport, who did the original base conversion, were certainly capable of coming up with something as daft as this, so I wouldn't rule it out, and it must have been done to accommodate a huge boot area, which caused the rear floor area to be raised to compensate. But if you were building it from new, surely you would think to put some extra glazing in the sides, and not just make the rear three rows of passengers sit with their heads in the roof void ? You can clearly see that those headrests reach right up to the tops of the side windows, so there would be no visibility whatsoever.
And it is only on the basic 609D chassis as well, so fully loaded there would be a lot of weight for it to lug about, probably very slowly. Despite all that, it managed to keep going with later owners until 2006, which would be a good length of service for any 609D.
