Amtrak's Texas Eagle is making a detour over over the former Chicago & Eastern Illinois route from Chicago to St. Louis. It is shown westbound in Tuscola, Illinois. The detour was due to construction on the regular route via Springfield.

As has been usual for a few years now Amtrak's northbound Saluki has a consist of Superliner equipment. It is passing the former Illinois Central depot in Pesotum, Illinois.

Although Rantoul, Illinois, has an Amtrak station, the City of New Orleans is not scheduled to stop there. So No. 58 is blasting through the station on an early January morning, running an hour and a half late. Rantoul is a stop for the Saluki and Illini. The northbound train is crossing East Grove Avenue.
Amtrak's northbound City of New Orleans has a clear indication at an intermediate signal in Rantoul, Illinois. No. 58 was running about an hour and half late, which was why I was able to catch it in daylight. The rear car appears to be a transition sleeper.
