I lobbied to be part of the second MSU MOR IT Leaders Program Cohort with help from my supervisor. Being accepted into the program showed the confidence others had in my capabilities and potential, and I’m committed to put in the time, work, and reflection to make the most of this experience.
I’m seeing how different points in my leadership journey have shaped my perceptions now toward management and leadership. In the past I’ve been sort of a reluctant leader. MOR, my cohort, and my coaches have empowered me to step up, get over myself, and just do it.
I’m learning to be true to some of my introverted tendencies, but to find the balance to challenge myself in different ways and grow. I’m seeing my strengths more clearly: driving results, staying positive, listening, strategic thinking, thoughtfulness, thoroughness. I’m learning to trust myself, to lighten up, and to be kinder, to remember to acknowledge and celebrate successes.
I’m learning to be intentional and decisive, while accepting I will make mistakes sometimes. I’m learning to see in new ways, from the balcony and through different perspectives. I’m re-learning the value of reflection, of being quiet, of thinking, of planning, and then doing. I’m re-learning the value of relationship building, of finding commonalities, of connecting people and ideas. I’ve been blessed to connect with new colleagues, collaborators, coaches, friends.
