The Easter Monday walk around the Edgbaston Campus of the University of Birmingham, in some light rain.
Taking a route off Pritchatts Road via a path towards University Square.
Muirhead Tower and Strathcona Building
On the E side, opposite, the mammoth MUIRHEAD TOWER for Arts, bridging the ring road (a location regretted by Conder). By Philip Dowson of Arup Associates, 1968-9; variously loved or loathed. A 'dark' floor of laboratories or lecture halls for every two glazed floors, and a large hall in its sloping underbelly. Refurbished 2009 by Associated Architects with full-height s sunscreen and silver-clad projecting café.
The two-storey STRATHCONA BUILDING, a long curving tail designed to avoid a straight corridor, built of concrete blocks and housing lecture theatres and seminar rooms. Behind, the Muirhead Tower.
